In fall of 2009 I got in a really bad motorcycle wreck (a SUV hit me) which shattered my pelvis and nearly severed my right leg from the knee down. I had 10+ surgeries the first month I was in the hospital, and remained bedridden for a few months before being able to use a wheelchair and crutches. In summer of 2010 my foot-drop (nerve damage) had improved enough to where I could walk without a brace.
Now, it’s summer of 2011 and I’m in desperate need of another surgery to fix my toes. If you notice in the picture above they’re bent. It’s because the tendon that runs down the back of my calf has tightened from scar tissue. The cost of surgery to fix this - $7,990. My medical expenses exceed $1 million so far and my insurance is claiming my toe problem is unrelated to my wreck and refusing to pay.
(this is just for staying in the hospital - not including surgeries and medicine)
My parents have paid thousands and thousands of dollars themselves to help me, and I work full-time while attending school to pay off my current medical debt so it’d take me years to save up $7,990 extra. But I don’t have years to wait for surgery because the longer I wait the more deformed the toes become - to the point that the middle joint would have to be removed from them and screws put in to straighten them. (For more info/pics, see this post). So, I’m asking you amazing people on tumblr for help. I really want to be able to walk pain-free again, so if you can reblog this or donate (go here) I’d be forever grateful.
